Due to Rise Tribal jewelry remnants along with tools and human bones tell the story of Asian coastal peoples coming up over the Alaskan land bridge between ice ages, and how these waves of Asian peoples became less Asian in appearance the farther they advanced into the Americas. The oldest human artifacts are at Old Crow in the Yukon, near the entry point onto the North American continent, and these peoples pushed down the east side of the west coast icefield in a gap, and this language group advanced as far south as the Mexican border, as it includes the Navaho and Apache tribes.

Later arrivals created a cultural gap between north Athabaskan language families in Alaska and Canada, and those in Arizona and New Mexico. At at rate, these people moved inland and stayed there. The next arrivals from Asia were island hoppers and likely bypassed the receding icefields first on Vancouver Island in what is now the southern half of Canada’s province of British Columbia. From here tribes migrated out and down coastal and interior areas.

From these points south, through Washington and Idaho to Oregon and California are many waves of differing language groups jostling for their space. This continued until the continent was fully populated: the last of these Asian arrivals in the period 10-30,000 year ago, were the Iniut-Eskimo peoples, who still all look quite similiar and share languages, and who took over the areas above the tree line around the Arctic.

Sign language is thought to have evolved around the Rio Grande region as a means for tribes to understand enough to trade essential goods with each other. And gradually, cultures settled into routines, boundaries, adapting to thrive on local food and resources, trading far away goods. Sea shells dug up in desert digs among human remains and tribal jewelry are found often, proof of an intricate trading system, in which the wearer could behold items from a culture they might never see.

And these cultures had evolved their social intelligence and worked out ways to work as many units often, yet had worked out a system of cooperation to allow rare artifacts to be where they caused awe and inspiration. So we see coastal Haida natives near the Alaskan border evolve a maritime culture, and like the Viking in Europe, attack in slave raiding parties on southern tribes living easy. It may have been ever thus, hardy northern people attack those rich and living soft.

Egypt had three thousand years of sublime peace and prosperity. Until those damned Assyrians on their horses came out of Asia on their horses with their swords, soft civilizations have felt nervous ever since. Watch yon Cassius, he has a lean and hungry look. If there are any good tribal artifacts still out there, they are as often not being crushed under Bull. Dozer One and Bull Dozer Two, are busy out there, to find metals and minerals and oil in the ground. Dust to dust, ash to ashes, but.

If and as we can, we do need to save and learn. About ourselves. About who we all are. Connected, is what. Common parents back in Africa, how we look depends which way our ancestors turned when they crossed that same Sinai the the Assyrians roared out of, Moses wandered lost in for all those years, tripping over tribal artifacts. There is more history now, perhaps fewer artifacts and tribal jewelry. But awareness of rareness can be liberating. Save and be saved. There is an Indiana Jones in us all: if we can’t quite crack the whip on the site, we can click in and see what he found. And not have to go down into that pit with the snakes. Now that is win win.

Description

Fewer tribal jewelry finds may be more common as development and mining tear up ancient sites, meaning we must get by with fewer items of the past.

American Antiques Humor, Jest Like Lincoln - Elevate, Never Desecrate

American antiques figures of fun towards the American colonists by their English oppressors in mockery included figures such as Yankee Doodle Dandy. Yet young America embraced him, even when he could only ride into town on a Yankee pony, not a proper Englishman’s horse. He and his pony meant business, and English who did not join in the revolutionary zeal were welcome to return to England, or someplace nearby that felt English, say English Canada, which they came up and founded. Though young America was modest and poor in contrast to the richest in Britain the wind was at it’s back enough to change the world.

This difference in rank and wealth was immense for the times, and it shows in portraits of American or English of the time, and in the backgrounds in the range of comfort in the homes. And yet the wit and wisdom of Benjamin Franklin in his many years of publishing Poor Richard’s Almanac created legends to live by, and achievements attainable in this new land. And so rich and fat John Bull would mock poor Brother Jonathan, representing all the poor colonists hanging together so they don’t hang separately.

Until Abraham Lincoln. At this point, the newspapers of the world saw brother Jonathan morph into a taller Uncle Sam, who grew a beard just when Lincoln did, and was not to be laughed at or mocked on the world stage. Behind cabinet doors, history now shows it took diligent effort on the part of Lincoln to have the powerful men of New York take seriously this awkward bumpkin from the west. But, one by one, Lincoln took them on, and mostly won their fond loyalty by the merit of his worth as an exceptional human being able to understand deeply and feel empathy for the least.

-With a powerful twist: the ability to cause all to break into unexpected laughter by Lincoln’s always brilliant mind, able to find a way to lighten everyone’s very heavy loads- by now all in cabinet had lost sons in this terrible war- during the darkest hours of America’s darkest hours for the north, and for democracy on earth, during low moments in the Civil War. Thus, whenever possible, as with Franklin before, Lincoln would make a jest in a play on words to surprise and lighten tension during very tense times.

-In his debates with Senator Douglas, Lincoln would double on back in logic on Douglas and leave him with little to reply at times. Lincoln said Douglas reminded him of the underpowered tug boat he saw on the Mississippi River. It had only engine enough to toot it’s horn, or quietly push forward. Lincoln had river rat humor on the other side of the Mississippi river that Mark Twain would make famous in Tom Sawyer decades later.

-Yet Mark Twain helped the world emancipate itself when people read of Tom in situations of humor, and of life and death and freedom, and how Tom has a moment of truth that reaches deep into the human psyche on the nature of who we are. When he hears black Jim sob for his wife and child sold separately from him, and he thinks of the words of the Christian preacher that it is a mortal sin to not return a slave to his rightful owner, Tom declares he will go to hell then, he will not turn Jim back in to his master, but help him flee north to freedom.

Here, the contrast of the unexpected, the fearful decision to face the wrath of hell if that is what it takes to do the right thing, or not allow the wrong to happen. Humor swings on the polar axis of this, and we see Mark Twain use that often, to mock the mutual human folly in us all. The very irony that his first article from the California gold fields about the frog jumping contest of Calaveras County was eagerly printed as a bright light of humor in the darkest months of the Civil War for the North. As with today, the witty humorist speaks to our hearts, our minds, our souls, our concerns, our hopes.

Now science and social intellience show us how to create the ingredients for laughter, and it does not need to have a victim. Example: years ago, I was asked what I thought of the great movie hit of the year, “The Bible”. I said I preferred the Book. Guffaws of laughter. For your status to rise, your humor should elevate, not desecrate. Humor requires intelligence and wit, and most attempts limp along with a victim, making that humor dark some where. Show your superior inner realizations by your shock value being on the upside for your victim. Example: a symphony break, lineup in the Men’s Room, only three urinals, twenty men, all in pain. Remarks to those at the urinals range from “hurry up you guys”, to “what’s the matter, can’t you find it”, “Yeah, someone send up a pair of tweezers.

Some times if you have asked yourself such a question as, What Would Lincoln Say Now, positive not negative can be adjusted in your brain like beer at a fest, it simply flows. Thus, I recognized one of the the Three Urinators as my lawyer, and said loudly, “Oh you know those bulls with long horns; they are probably trying to still unfurl the damn thing”. Guffaws of laughter; my lawyer swung around to wave hi at me, peeing on a rude guy. Win-win.

And if Lincoln had ever been lined up at a picnic, and the farmers were lining up for the one latrine, you now know I swing from his same vines. You can do it too. This is your life and each daily event, you get to choose. And remember, if you ever see a solemn and wonderful Uncle Sam looking into your eyes, and asking of you what you have done for your country, know this is the best in America, the world.

America has given the world such fine examples: the emotional intelligence and resolve of Abraham Lincoln, the inspiration of John F. Kennedy. Yet playful, helpful, peace corps types both. About time both these two mighiest aircraft carriers on earth began a renewal of America’s Peace Corp, Big John and Honest Abe.

So we suggest that we present the Admiral’s Cap to the Peace Corps Big John to the wife of the Governator of California, Mrs. Democrat Maria Shriver Schwartzenager, and her Republican husband the American Good Will Ambassador. And who to take New Peace Corps Abraham Lincoln- a Republican- into disaster zones? You get to choose. Roll around in your mind, consider the group you are in, and some one will say some silly damn thing that simply cries for a more balanced response.

You should practice, baby strikes, but how to strike like the sweetest little asp this side of Cleopatra’s neck when a fool is busy painting an X on his or her forehead, and the eyes of those bright minds you respect are beginning to roll. An intelligent social voice needs to speak up, not go on. Light strikes at first, and best to keep them with no sting, simply a mark. In the minds of all, that the snide comment of some fool had been lifted upside down and plunked back on the fool as the manure beneath the daisy for all else.

Description

American folklore has usually created laughter and merriment at basic elements of humour- the unexpected after a series of expected behaviors- to make a point.

5 Amazing Habits Thomas Jefferson’s Achievements Can Teach You

American antiques heroic figures are many, and none tower above Thomas Jefferson. His visionary understanding of history allowed him to draw on his knowledge that, as example, a century earlier, Holland had freed itself from Spanish rule with initial support of only three counties until the rest joined in. This was one option. But visionaries see options.

Jefferson learned to be patient as the middle colonies from Delaware and Pennsyvania to New York declined to fully abdicate from British Magna Carta rights, rules and order, which the more conservative people held their loyalties to.

Loyal adherence to well known phrases to use as your base for acceptance is essential, to put forward your new ideas. Jefferson saw to it that during his term as Governor of Virginia, he oversaw changes to Magna Carta that took out rights to lands as a benefit forvever from King James 11 to becoming adapted to change America from becoming another Scotland or Ireland. That is, when, as Jefferson mentions, Sir Walter Raleigh was granted, as were others later, vast portions of eastern America forever.

Jefferson changed all this so that Pennsylvania was no longer a private reserve of the Penn family back in England and all tenant occupants forever in debt of so much of their produce back to England. Americans would not, thanks to Thomas Jefferson, be a nation of tenant farmers.

Improve on what works best: Jefferson was the man who applied his logic to determine that the pure silver of the Spanish Dollar was more appropriate to America as it’s identifying monetary unit. America would be no longer beholden to the quirky English pound system, but should make the new American Dollar fit within the logic of the new French decimal system: thus, dimes, quarters, a half dollar, and.

And allow some connection between both olds as they create a readily acceted new old. So an English pence at the bottom of respect in this new financial order relaxes all. Like Tom, diss your King only as you sense you can, not a moment before, as you plan your system to logic and success.

Talk to and encourage understanding of those opposed to you; those who are foreign to you. Jefferson opposed the English taxation system which granted land to inherited gentry and tax monies from all to the English Anglican church, yet debated this with opponents who remained his friends.

Jefferson opposed any church based government and did mention Islam and others who should feel free to be or become an American, as millions did and do, following the liberal democracy ideals of such men as Thomas Jefferson, unrivalled in his human genius among many.

Five elements that endowed this giant of a man to help create a new nation on earth:

- Vision. Look at where you are; can be.

- Patience. Not all see what you see; feel threatened.

- Use phrases well known and acceped; as springboards to more open freedoms.

- Talk to your enemies, see their plight. Jefferson’s words that Germans were unhappily sold by their princes as soldiers for England helped a later wave of migration from Germany. There are now twice as many of German descent as English in America.

- Separation of Christian fundamental control from state; independent thinking over orthodoxy. Jefferson saw the religious fever of fundamentalism by any faith as a danger, and himself re wrote his own personal bible to take out fables and concentrate on Biblical eternal truths.

You can apply these independent minded thin king processes in your own life, if you take the time, and consider your circumstances, as did Tom Jefferson, who saw a Magna Carta America based on effort and merit, not inheritence. And that applied to all. Still should.

Description

Thomas Jefferson was far more than the author of the Declaration of Independence. He quietly changed Magna Carta, law by law, to free all Americans.

American Antiques, Legacies - How Ben Franklin’s Humor Was Almost The Death of Him

American antiques humor has been the salvation of Americans since revolutionary days, at least after and around being banned in Boston. Benjamin Franklin was a master of taking the basic ingredient of humor- the unexpected after a series of logical expected events, and turning a phrase and idea into a major social confrontation, yet causing the victims of the humor to laugh at themselves. What Franklin had done was with the tacit approval of my ancestor, at whose estate this incident happened.

In response to an Edict from King George 111 being posted in all town squares in all 13 colonies, Franklin had hopped on the next ship to London with his folios of pen quills, ink and fine papers. As my ancestor Sir Francis was Post Master General of the British Empire, and had appointed Dr. Franklin to the post of Post Master General of North America, they had become dear friends. In this case, Franklin reported directly to Sir Francis that rioting was breaking out in Philadelphia, mobs with torches and pitchforks gathering as he left.

In England, at the West Wycome Estate of Sir Francis, Dr. Franklin soon had before him many of the British Cabinet, at the invitation of Sir Francis. At this meeting, Franklin read out his improvsed Edict from the King of Prussia. To the shock of the cabinet members present, Dr. Franklin revealed he had intercepted Official Papers which he grandly presented, titled An Edict of the King of Prussia. Dr. Franklin said this Edict was at present being delivered to the German Hessian troops in America, in which they were to turn on their English allies.

In fact, all civil rights in England were now restricted, as are public gatherings of more than five persons: all muskets must be turned in. Sound familiar? At any rate, cries of attack Berlin to never trusted those Germans were being shouted, until. until one, then two, then all of the excited gentlemen noticed that Dr. Franklin and Sir Francis were smiling at each other from across the room: it was a hoax! All red faced anger had to be allowed to fizzle and sizzle out of gentlemen who had been so obviously tricked from defending to being angered by the same edict, if worded against rather in favor of their lives.

Those gentlemen now had to admit they had been tricked into walking in American mocassins for those short moments. His enforced trip to a cell in the Tower was almost worth it, as King George had not found much to smile about in this insult on the good relationship he enjoyed with his cousin Prussian kings and princes. In fact from these cousins would come the young 18 year old Victoria in 1837, promising to do good. This was a very new, higher standard to kingly or queenly requirements, after the madness of George 111 and foppish folly of George 1V.

But this humor was treasonous in the 1770’s, and Sir Francis was soon pleading to King George for a pardon that Dr. Franklin was a harmless eccentric scientist of importance to his age, not a rebel. He was both. At any rate, as soon as the King grumped well be gone with him, before the King could change his mind, which he did often, Sir Francis had a ship to the Tower Exit wharf and ensured that Dr. Franklin was safely on his way to America quicker than the King could say off with his head.

This application of humor was a brave, reckless use of humor that almost cost the joker- in this case Dr. Benjamin Franklin- his life. But he was in fact on an urgent cause on behalf of a nation that did not yet exist: except in the minds of an exceptional few. As he was Post Master General of North America, he saw a mighty English speaking North American nation over much of the continent in his framework to the future. Ronald Reagan pushed this concept forward when he promoted NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement Zone as a way to create a self sufficient super nation.

Dr. Franklin would be very proud, he would expect the right to be Post Master General if he ever comes back. Expect him to present himself with some prank towards the most stuffed shirts in the room. American antiques history and humor as in America, not humour as in Britain, Canada, Australia should reign supreme. Or have the Yanks changed that to rain supreem? Only all our daughters? Sigh.

American Antiques History - Inspiration, Dedication, Renewal

America evolved out of the natural expression of European, mostly English, explorers, pirates and adventurers who sailed along the Atlantic coast of America in the 1500’s. It was there and then that Sir Walter Raleigh claimed and named Virginia and picked expansive Chesapeake Bay to house, as it now does a great naval armada with it’s capital city nearby, naval officers training nearby at Annapolis, Washington, D.C. and the core of America truly began here.

By the early 1700’s, the young lad Benjamin Franklin ran away from his strict Puritan childhood of beatings in Boston. He arrived in Philadelphia, the growing city of Brotherly Love, which much more suited his temperament; and here he thrived, creating much influence for himself. Gradually a growing sense of an independent United States of America evolved from those initial 13 colonies clinging, adapting, and learning to thrive up and down the Atlantic seaboard.

All this was foreseen by Sir Walter Raleigh when he noted that cotton could be grown up to the Virginia coast, and this new continent could be a great English speaking nation, and it’s naval armada would fit within this great bay and protect the capitol that could be created nearby. Such astonishing vision is rather in short supply these days with politicians who strip the treasury for pork projects in their districts and who have badly discredited and damaged the reputation and ability of America to meet the basic needs of it’s less advantaged citizens.

Today in America are between 40-70 million people who are under or non insured citizens. Meanwhile, America now spends half of all military spending on earth, confirming President Dwight Eisenhower’s warning half a century ago that a military industrial complex was building such complex networks in American industry that resolve and strength would be needed to ensure the people held a firm rein on this. And this visionary thinking was from the great military leader who was Allied Commander in Europe during World War Two.

President Eisenhower, a born leader, created rather than a vast military complex, the freeway system that brought America into a new level of prosperity and efficiency. He had observed the autobahns of defeated Germany, yet immediately saw the power in deployment of troops and tanks rapidly around America in event of a Soviet attack, much as the later military sanctioned Arpanet evolved into todays Internet. It is time again for visionary rebuilding of America at home, and less adventures in places that have not attacked us.

Less hysteria about a mortal enemy under every rock, and more integrated planning with allies are long overdue, in this increasingly complicated world with new powers pushing at the edge of security and stability as we have known. In times of stress, leaders from FDR to JFK asked of us that you ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country. This essential attitude of communal effort has not come down from the present administration, who have now plunged America from President Clinton’s ongoing government budget surpluses and a strong economy.

We all need to wake up and be aware that sacrifices are happening anyway, but in all the worst ways. Time for renewal, and more back to the American antiques inspired leadership that has always appeared when America most needed it. More of the same seems to be a formula for a very weakened America with its debts being held by China and Japan and the oil states.

Change is in the air. Opportunity knocks: the world asks if America still has the vision and capacity to meet its obvious challenges, and become less the boat rocker in a very rocky world at sea, seemingly adrift. The need in our fevered world is becoming more urgent daily.

Description

American history shows that it took determined waves of people to settle and create the America of today, and while pressures mount, the beat goes on.

Sigh.

Knocking on Heaven’s Door The American antiques history of song and expression to signify an era is well established. From Yankee Doodle Dandy, to John Brown’s Body, It’s a Long Way to Tipperarry, Hey Buddy, Can You Spare a Dime, Hey Hey the Gang’s all Here, When Johnnie Comes Marching Home Again, Hurrah, Hurrah, the phrase reminds of the times. After listening to Knock, Knock Knocking on Heaven’s Door, one is reminded of the folly of the decade and more of the Vietnam War, the change for better and worse brought on by the resulting youth revolt.

The thousands of young men killed, mutilated, minds driven to breaking points, called killer back home on leave. Even after having served, on relief in San Francisco; at some point, time’s up. Into the 1970’s, young men found themselves on a bus to Canada and some safe house haven in civilization outside America. Each newly arrived American soon made it known to friends in San Francisco those they met in Canada who were sympathetic to their plight and walked in anti war protests arm in arm, even if only once on campus.

And even a working parent as myself would find himself preparing a cot in the basement for an overnight stay by a young man who knocked at my door and said he had been given my address at a cafe in San Francisco. He understood that he could be gratified with a cot for an overnight stay, as he had just come from the bus depot. I at first would stand astounded that this total stranger had seen my address on a bulletin board in a cafe, under “Overnight Safe Haven- Victoria Canada, an island in Canada just over the border”.

At first it frightened me, but as there was nothing I could do, I simply continued my first night safe haven reputation that my trust with some struggling folks in San Francisco would not let me betray. And how those young American people changed my Victoria and Canada for the better is a from tragic to magic story that can be told thousands of times. Young Americans on campus with us locals even in Canada renounced the war and the profiteering that saw wealth pour to the corporations that produced the chemicals and bombs.

This became a focus that brought environmental concerns along with a growing American feeling the war was not really essential to America’s primary security. Yet, for years the war dragged on and denuded portions of Vietnam and the lives of millions of Viet and American people. The war in Iraq has not yet to my awareness created more than a trickle of moral objectors, but this time it is a volunteer army, so the frustration is more economic as war spending and subsidies to convert corn to drive vehicles has doubled the price of essential corn as food for the poor of the world.

America’s recent folly among a long list is to redirect inefficient corn from food to fuel, creating a doubling of corn prices to the poor of the world. Blissfully unaware, this Pesident seems to float in his own dream world with his visions bubble, and we hear John McCain curry up to favor these Bush policies to world wide fear or more of the same which will inevitably lead to disaster. A logic and solution based policy must reverse this, and many other Bush follies, to attain a balanced budget, a balance world.

Rather than using the most efficient non-essential “food”- sugar, which in a vehicle is a powerfully efficient sugar to convert for fuel, as Brazil has mastered, is increasing worldwide hunger. Follies upon folly are mounting to create a very unstable base to build forward, until we stabilize the platform that we now balance like a bear on a board on a barrel with no end in sight, considering the blinkered vision that brought us to 1990’s prosperity and general isolated battles in concert with our friends.

And, no small challenge, in 2009 we must see a more logical budget. Such as in place under Clinton and Congress in a strong economy that for the first time in American history was going to be paid off by the end of this decade. Instead America is now trapped in a trillion dollar deficit that mounts daily. As well, it’s “my way or the highway” attitude has increased hatred by others in faraway lands that we bomb, and their surviving young boys and girls learn to strap bombs around their waists to reply back for relatives killed.

Oh, America! God must weep: To consider that true American antiques personalities as Benjamin Franklin or Thomas Jefferson, the practical achiever and the idealistic philosopher seeking an idealized America worthy of the finest instincts of the best of ancient Greece. A Socrates, Plato, Jefferson or Franklin could not have conceived of approving a Guantanamo based approach to the British and even more the Germans, mostly who came back as settlers after the necessary War for Independence.

They had found America was filled with good patriots who were deeply fine people, and wanted to be a part of it. We need that now. “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” when spoken in a teen song in the 60’s meant escape to Canada, Sweden, or die. America is again at a serious crossroads. And as Churchill might have said, America is as sound as democracy, which after it tries every possible solution, will finally get on and do the right thing. We can hqardly wait. The renewing roar and smile of the Eagle will right itself, adapting to a quickly changing world.

The great news is, America will find many friends wanting to mend and fix. Europe, the British, their Canadian, Australian and New Zealander soul mates are there, with the same values and beliefs America has so wisely adapted from its British roots. And to now, a attacked America arose as one and forced upon evil empires at that time, Japan and Germany,to accept solid core values of modern democracy and capitalism. Both nations are now core members of the cilization standards club of the world thanks to the sacrifice of American blood.

Job well done, time to come home. It is time to stop the bleeding, and commence with the healing. Time for America to step up to the plate and play ball! Many nations of the world are in line to feel they can again be trusted friends of an America that has had a series of setbacks and actions that need major adjusting, and as America always does, comes around to again. The future has more than a silver lining.
