Soaking blackberries or strawberries in vodka or rum increased the anti oxidant power of the berries.
This is news so amazing we have to stand on the roof and bugle it to you. Where’s that bugle? Well, OK we will keyboard to you the news that USDA scientists have found that soaking strawberries and blackberries in vodka or rum increases the anti oxidant power of the berries. Probably does wonders for the booze as well, but they didn’t mention that. USDA is not yet sure why this unusual combination of a healthy and a not so healthy natural product to create a nutritional powerhouse. This in Sept 2007 Men’s Health.
So, go pick your choice of rum or vodka, some fresh berries, and if not some of your good as fresh frozen berries, in your hearty new fridge-freezer. Keep pulling a pack from freezer to fridge overnight, store your Berry Healthy Cocktail for desserts or your Berry Big News Party, all healthy items. Aunt Agatha has known this for years, had a bathtub filled with her own version of fermented potato vodka and her tart cherries, what a boost. And here’s to to your Berry Good Health. She at least gets her vodka at the liquor vendor now, but the berries and cherries go right into the crock pot with the vodka the moment Jeeves arrives home with the goods, a quick mix and into the fridge to ferment. Feels like the night before Christmas.
