Healthy lifestyles would not recommend that you be downdraft or under a modern aircraft. They are fueled for more power with kerosine, that lamp that gave off smoke into the lungs of grandpa while he tried to read the paper. Mostly, we can now turn on the lights and not ignite a flammable substance into our lives.

Although modern industry, in it’s efficient way, can some times do this for us. Take, for example, that modern marvel, the jet engine. It is a much more high powered machine, loaded with needs much beyond grandpa’s old tin lizzy. We made the error back half a century ago of adding lead to gasoline for all the grandpa’s, and charge them extra. Then , decades later, when it was found that lead was killing us, much as the use of lead had killed Romans of high society who only eat fromm leaden bowls.

Good night Caesar. But now for us: science has really been quite quiet about this, as there are many expensive grants that apply to those who find high powered heavy machines off the ground most efficiently, and over the seas. Well, we have a proposal that is sure to create more immediate condemnation from some, such as the kerosine lobby. But what if we created, as was suggested in the economist, a world wide web of efficient high tech high speed trains that the French and Japanese have fully mastered, and network the globe with them.

Filthy air traffic over the bits hard to get the trains to. There are not many excuses for air flight, other than London to New York. Look at your map of the world, and you can see, how the southern route down through India, makes it easy from London to Istanbul, Delhi to Beijing, split in Siberia for those hops down those islands to include Tokyo. Otherwise the train has you working your computer and soon you are under the sea, like the Britain to France channel tunnel, but at the far eastern end of this most land mass, and you are into North America.

Your Amtrack or Bullet Train or trains around France, could be the world’s tramway and we could advance. Our skies will clear and we would inhale less spittles of kerosine. We can see that sweet dream, or is it just too obscene. To turn our backs on our habits, even to get clean.

It will not likely happen, but was there in several years ago as some plan reported in the Economist, as a thought on one way to get off the hell hook of air pollution, that may double in a decade, unless we wake up. But, you may ask, many do, who needs blue skies and clean water, and fresh air and all that. We are children of progress, and let it at that.

No, Chairman Now, and President March Hare, we have had it with your coal burning, air polluting progress, and want to get a cleaner route. Anyway hopeful, what is cleaner will make live more possibly serene. Which would be a fine change, from the hat and no cattle that we have all seen.

Studies made clear, as were the skies of America, the three days after 9/11. There was no air traffic; the skies of America became blue. Then soon they were kerosine gray from that exhaust trail across the sky. Lumps of coal are chokng us all. Time for brilliant blue skies for your brilliant diamond eyes at It Is Her Diamond, Let Her Choose!

Happiness can be as elusive a state to be in, as depression can be to get out off. We know it when we see it in others: a laughing couple, a tender holding of hands between an elderly couple, a child on a swing in the park,Within our own lives, it can be obvious as well: a meeting with a long unseen loved one, almost any time with a grand child, a sense of achievement at completing a task, the praise of one we respect, the smile of a loved one.

How to maintain that state is unlikely over a lifetime given inevitable tragedies ahead no matter how carefully we and our loved ones live. But some research has been done by University of California psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky and others. They found that we would all be happy if we followed what we learned in Sunday school or kindergarten:

-COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

-PRACTICE ACTS OF KINDNESS

-SAVOR LIFE’S JOYS

-THANK A MENTOR

-LEARN TO FORGIVE

-INVEST TIME AND ENERGY IN FRIENDS AND FAMILY

-TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY

-DEVELOP STRATEGIES FOR COPING WITH STRESS AND HARDSHIPS.

We will discuss each of these elements that science has found exists among those who live longest and report highest rates of personal inner happiness. We can find ourselves wiping our brow, sweating, with grand children at their school or getting them some urgent thing they need and you were there. Receive because you have earned, as I have done, your Best Grandpa Ever award and look at it and whistle while you work, and realize that science can predict some pretty predictable things that is so good to know.

For when the crabby lady cackles, you somehow can really sense she may not have practiced these eight great ways to be happy. And so we will gather around the fire here again shortly, and talk some more on this. The words stand so well, I thought they should be savored, in case my additional words on this may take it away.

When I was first rising (I was a mail boy at HQ) I found I could remember all the eight names of the vice presidents on the floor below the Chairman and and President. Their names followed when I stepped off the elevator and thought MEBSMBSM.

So, each day you prepare to step off your elevator and face the bosses, make them think you are clever by saying all names as your circle that floor. Here you recall CPSTLITD.

So, for now, we will say CPST,

LITD. As easy as Tigger and Pooh. Here is to a satisfying, happy life.

A recent article had us discuss the satellite maps that display how the swirling wind currents take soot from India and deposit it over Arctic ice, and this good news towards that problem deals with that. A British television documentary has just had us follow a Chinese farmer who has created his simple yet effective means of getting away from gathering wood to cook the evening fire, causing all that soot in their house and all the way over the seas.

Bio Gas. Poop. The proud farmer showed what he is doing to help global warming. Their own toilet and the cattle poop are sent through several plastic tubes to a cement tub sunk in the ground. We see the bubbling stew of human and animal waste, and coming out of the center is another tube, which we follow, tacked up under the rafters of their tiny, tidy home, to the gas stove.

The wife turns the gas on, as she is about to prepare dinner, and she talks through a translator how much cleaner their home is now, compared to when they burned wood or coal to cook the meals: the children were always coughing and sick and she never felt well. Now, she looked healthy: they feel rich now. Since her husband read of this from information from the government, he had managed to build one of the first in the village: others now copy their example, and those who do not are still the sickly ones with soot filled houses, and are the poorest as they spend little time improving their fields in their search for firewood to cook their next meal: they have no time, no time, all work.

The documentary tells us and shows examples that the government of China is encouraging and helping build one hundred million such bio gas containers in the next few years. What this is doing to improve the atmosphere is also doing that which has always helped pull people out of poverty and closer to civilized comfort. They now have time to work the fields, make improvements to their equipment, that before had been wasted searching for firewood to cook by.

This seems like one of the least expensive programs the world should help make happen. In desert Africa, they also scramble for sticks of wood to cook their meal, with the cattle nearby. This seems something so inexpensive that all should not somehow help create a billion such gas creating climate cleansing containers, then a billion more.

The earth is warming, and any denial of that fact requires mind numbing stupidity or refusal to watch the numbers on the United Nations temperature reading, as the numbers click on up. We all need to encourage wise care of our good mother earth. This seems one good way.

A story going the rounds of the net has brought me an alert from an engineer friend about the perils of diet soda. He has quit and sent a detailed story from a doctor who outlined how the sodium and chemicals inserted in diet soda to make the claim no sugar is creating a poisonous stew that millions drink in some vague sense that it feels refreshing and must be good or they would not sell it, right? Wrong, and we have been there before. The examples in this story were of several women who had MS or some other health problem, but had a habit of drinking diet sodas.

In this story, which seems plausible to me, they reported they were climbing out of their wheelchairs within weeks of avoiding diet sodas. One might hope that in so doing they might have eaten a kiwi or apple instead, and put nutrients, not poisons, in their body. What amazes me in this day and age that with all the information about, and the health advisers who must have been advising these people that the way to health is to only put healthy foods and drinks in your system: they had utterly ignored.

To do otherwise is to imperil your health. They must have heard those stories, and so do we all, and yet continue our foolish behaviors until we are in a wheelchair, a burden to all. Come on folks. We all must row our own boat, and carrying on willfully against all known knowledge defies rules of self respect and carrying your own weight. Some have made their brains so sluggish with the trans fats and toxins of prepared foods they are no longer thinking straight.

Healthy foods, water, teas, even coffee with milk and honey is good. The latest science health studies keep confirming natural foods are best and those ideas are like loose diamonds . Any junk pop or the chips and junk food all go together as naturally as becoming an unhealthy couch potato. That may not have been the case with these folks, although I suspect some of that came into the equation.

But it explains that lot of unhealthy people in line at the grocer, when you see a cart loaded with prepared foods, pops, junk, nary a fruit or vegetable to be seen. When that person gives you a dirty look for making your point with your eyes, tough. Who is going to subsidize her extensive hospital stays and medical visits, while she continues her ways. All we can do is keep talking, pointing out the obvious. Maybe yet the fat lady will look in our basket and ask what all that fresh fruit and vegetables is for. Eating. You should try some, some time.

We would all be better off. For me, luckily, I was not brought up on pop or junk, although like any child I loved sweets. But a plum is sweet. I think for me, and for you who realize you will walk more easily when you have less weight punishing your joints, is to do what I have done. Hold up in front of you the soda pop you will never drink in one hand, and a plum, or kiwi, or your favorite fruit in your other hand. Say goodbye to one, say hello to the other, and live happily ever after. What a rare diamond of an idea.

Use this example every which way: out the door, your exercise machine, or your couch. A wise inspiring new health or science book rather than the escape novel. Get real, fill your lungs with fresh air, your gut with slim foods, your thoughts with good deeds, and smile as if no one notices but you; are you are the true Rare Natural Diamond .

Recent findings by researchers at the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta, confirmed from the World Health Organization studies, estimate that from 8,000 to 24,000 new cases of cancer occur in Canada yearly due to pollution. The finding is a shock to Canadians who recycle, bicycle or walk when possible. But rampant industrialized waste and lack, still of stringent enough regulations, are causing misery among those exposed to these toxins.

If this is happening in pristine Canada, how is your back yard? We all need to be aware of toxins in our own home, under the sink, in the basement or garage. If is has been simmering away for some time, take it away. Recycling depots are now common, but we learn all too common is that those toxic expensive bits are pulled out by hand in Asia, and then the plastic burnt off to salvage the copper wire, that smoke and ash drifting across the Pacific onto America’s forests and into America’s lungs.

By the billions, as you can imagine, and increasing daily. Like the world temperature, merrily skipping upward. Is any one able to measure those skipping upward numbers by the time and let us know when the sea will be up to our ankles? Our knees? When should we open a gondola franchise?

There is hope. And even while additional mineral and oil sands projects go into higher gear, we need to ensure that we become world leaders, not followers, in helping create a greener world. That U.N. World Clock is ticking, showing how earth’s average temperature is now 14.1 something to the tenth power.

And it is those farthest numbers to the right that we should be paying more attention: they are merrily skipping upwards as you watch. No up or down movement at any time you watch. Especially, we in the west need to clean up our act, and then help the developers such as China and India with our technology: common reason must prevail.

And if babies are being stillborn in healthy Canada due to pollution, imagine how bad and worse it is getting over there. There is not a potty section in the pool any more. No more. Let’s be aware that we need to personally do all we can to green up, but also to encourage our governments, at every level, to get off the pot. Or out of the pool. Or at least clean up after.

A tree known in ancient India since before the days of Buddha has now been confirmed by western science that the oils from the seeds have many curative powers. These oils, when squeezed from the seeds, has been an essential health supplement for recorded times. The oil comes from the seeds of the tropical tree whose oils have been in medicine cabinets through south east Asia for thousands of years. The oil has been used for every skin disorder, including ulcers, eczema, psoriasis, leprosy, diabetes, tetanus, constipation, and in some cases, family planning.

But it took a western scientist working in the Sudan to notice that locusts stayed away from this tree, long known in India, as the Neem tree, which lines the streets of many cities in India today. It has been a boon to Indian farmers to repel pests that would otherwise consume much of a crop, apply and organically stave off fungal, beetle, worm attacks and helps build up soil for more bountiful crops. Neem oil can now be purchased in the West,as a 70% solution mixed straight with water as 2 tablespoons to a gallon of water, can be applied directly around plants.

There are so many wise habits of the ancients we are learning to discover, while others nod their heads and say, well, yes, thanks for confirming what we’ve known. Now we all know.

A New Skin Health Cream now gets your oxidizing iron out

  • Great Science Skin News! One of the key ways to get our existing skin back to our natural youthful skin health, is by getting the excess iron out. What does iron do when exposed to the elements? It rusts-oxidizes- into red dust, as did Great Grandpa’s old jalopy.
  • As your own skins iron free radicals oxidize your beautiful, soft skin. We can look back at photos and see how our facial skin-and our looks- gradually shrink to no longer soft, then into a well lived look, then rugged…Now, our youthful heart looks in the mirror, we see looking back ugly hints of great grandpa’s or grandmas blotches and wrinkles. Sigh- is there no respite?
  • Sound of bugles, please; science to the rescue! A breakthrough in applied science, lab to you, according to Prevention Magazine is now here. In an article, “Brave New Beauty” by Cara Birnbaum.
  • As we know, every time your skin is exposed to the sun, iron in your skin is exposed to ultra violet (UV) rays, which as free radicals attack and ultimately destroys you, rusting you out. This “oxidizing”of your free radicals releases massive amounts of iron into your exposed skin, creating harmful free radicals that damage collagen and cause DNA mutations-”ultimately leading to skin aging and even cancer”, says Charareh Pourzand, PhD, a lecturer in pharmaceutics at the University of Bath in Britain.
  • A recent study indicated that those to live to be 100 are 85% female, all are iron deficient, thin, optimistic, socially and mentally involved, friendly, curious. So, as men don’t menstruate and lose iron in their blood as women do, men are often walking iron coffins rusting in the rain. This is of huge interest to men, perhaps more than for women.
  • Women can become youthful again with this skin health product. For men, it’s a matter of life or early death. That’s the science. Now, from the lab to us, at New York University Medical Center, Dr. Dennis Gross, an associate professor of dermatology has now added a chelating complex to several products in his skin care line. He explains, “While this chelator sequesters the free iron, it still allows the absorption of bound iron, which is beneficial to the healthy functioning of skin”.
  • While this is the first clinically accepted skin rejuvinator on the market, Prevention says, expect others to follow this health trail. If you are interested on updates or where to obtain this, please let us know.

Most extensive study ever shows food, nutrition, lack of exercise critical in one third of cancers

  • The most comprehensive study ever undertaken on the association between cancer and obesity concludes that excess body fat triggers many types of cancers, as does the consumption of even moderate amounts of alchohol, red meats and processed meats. This study has just been released in Washington by the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund, shows food, nutrition and lack of exercise appear critical in recommendations to causing many cases- perhaps up to one-third - of all cancers. “Cancer is preventable”, said Dr. Philip James, one of the study’s authors and chairman of the British-based International Obesity Taskforce. “Let’s get more vegetables, fruits….Let’s get off our backsides, however and whenever we can. The study’s 10 best ways to avoid cancers:

  • 1. Be as lean as possible, within the normal range of body weight.

  • 2. Be physically active at least 30 minutes daily.

  • 3. Limit consumption of energy dense foods; avoid sugary drinks.

  • 4. Eat mostly foods of plant origin.

  • 5. Limit intake of red meat: avoid processed meat.

  • 6. Limit alchoholic drinks.

  • 7. Limit consumption of salt; avoid mouldy cereals and bread.

  • 8. Try to get your nutrients from foods rather than supplements.

  • 9. Babies should be breastfed.

  • 10. Cancer survivors should follow the recommendations for cancer victims.

The only surprise to us is liquor consumption, as so many studies have shown that cabernet sauvignon wine is a more potent cancer fighter than the red grapes it was made from, and others that have shown berries and black cherries soaked in vodka then have more antioxidants than the non drunk berry. But it does seem we can pop two the the boys, one for the girls, but not swallow the entire punchbowl. Rats. So, we post this new, under Cancer, because the news says this so quickly, and the newspaper is gone tomorrow, but we will leave these 10 best rec’s from the doc’s who know, so we can review. And as the cancer do say, get off our butts, stuff out the butt, but to wear off the belly is next to quit smoking as job one to stay alive.

Optimism can be still applied against Cancer by searching and acting on known and new cancer fighters.

  • Optimists have been writing alarmed letters to editors that the media should not have reported the findings that optimists with cancer do not appear to extend their lives over pessimists with cancer. We disagree. Every advance in knowledge allows us to stand on the shoulders of that knowledge and see that little bit further ahead.

  • So, now that we know that sitting in a corner with a smiley face, or a frown, makes not a wit of difference, we turn to the cancer itself and what is feeding it. Cancers are cells that have run amok. But now, and every month, millions more scientists and researchers search for further cancer fighting drugs or elements in plants. More and more cancers have now been identified in their specific characteristics, and we unravel mysteries about what triggers a healthy cell to turn against it’s host and begun a process of attacking your body. And we think the optimist and pessimist should apply their every fibre and being to read up, learn about their specific cancer, and act on the knowledge they find to fight the devil within in them, hard.

  • The cancers that attack our plumbing, for instance, shrivel when attacked by the resveratol in purple grape juice, and now we know even more by the darkest red wine Cabernet Sauvignon. The cabernet grape leaf is the most successful of all grape leaves in how it attacks cancers that attack the leaf and cause it shrivel. It is this benefit also attacks any cancerous polyps through your plumbing, from mouth to goodbye. You can bottle Cabernet Sauvignon, and we are checking our sources to bring you truly life enhancing products, and you might experiment which Cabernet Sauvignon, or Merlot wines, will put of glow in your eye, while you feel them work their good works through you. in some jurisdictions, and make sure you are having your glass of red wine amply. All dark vegetables and darkest fruits would also be on your eating list. And as many walks as you can get in, to keep all those cancer fighting elements to circulate into every corner of your precious body, down to recycling the blood in you from toes to brain.

  • Other cancers are equally documented on what drugs and plants anti oxidants you should consume to attack that cancer.

  • All this in addition to any medical and surgical treatment you may be going through. Check with your doctor, and we can virtually assume your good doc will agree with you, that you taking every part of your health regimen through this as possible will increase your odds of living closer to your normal years of life. Everything from flossing to driving a motorcycle will also affect that: take care. See you on the walking path by the lake.

  • It may not be Pollyanna who lives longer than Grumpy; but we still suspect that a well read, healthy eating lifestylke Pollyanna, once she stops crying that her smile won’t cure the cancer, might hear this and go to her computer and begin to read, read read and practice to eat only the dark foods, and walk, wsalk, walk. So could Grumpy, but with his give it up attitude, we fear that Grumpy goes sits in his corner, arms folded, and says, well, that’s it, then. Polly, grab Grumpy up to dance, and feed him a plum, a glass of red Cabernet Sauvignon wine.

  • So, all you Grumpys, and you Pollyannas (wave from me), lettuce use our Brains to conquer the Cancer. It not, we died fighting.

“A Positive Outlook matters little in cancer battle, study shows”. What can we learn from this?

  • Perhaps like you, my first reaction is one of sadness that we apparently couldn’t affect a disease ravaging inside us.

  • But, on reflection, even as I began to read details of this study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania who followed 1,093 patients with head and neck cancer, and found no signifigant difference in survival whether someone scored high or low on an emotional well-being scale, I began to see the upside, and then found their words verifying my thoughts. “It’s disappointing”, said Dr. James Coyne, professor of psychology at UP, “but on the other hand I think a case could be made that people are made to feel guilty-they are told explicitly, or implicitly, that you’ve got to toughen up, you’ve got to have a fighting spirit and that’s not true.

  • The study has just been published in the journal, Cancer. The theory is that negative emotions stress the body and batter the immune system. It contrasts a 1989 study by Stanford University School of Medicine’s Dr. David Spiegel that showed breast cancer victims lived 18 months longer with a positive attitude. In later, more extensive studies on this, Dr. Spiegel and others were unable to replicate those results, but the impression had been placed in people’s minds. This by Sharon Kirkey for CanWest News.

  • What this does not then discusss, so we will now, is if we can’t smile ourselves healthy, can we read and learn which foods, and drugs, are best for that specific cancer we, or our loved ones, have? We think yes, it is what we have been talking about, so let’s discuss this and watch the new studies sure to follow this study. Let’s start with one type of cancer, there are hundreds: any cancer through the eating to exit department of our bodies, our plumbing. Cancers can be described as similiar to peach leaf curl on a peach tree, or on grape vines. Moisture, sometimes laden with fungals, collect on peach or grapes leaves, and are quickly picked off and disposed of, not allowed to fester on the ground. They are a similiar type of cancer, and in our orchard or back yard we can witness how a healthy leaf twists and curls in an agonized cancerous death grip. And the grape vines that most successfully have flavenoids that attack the leaf curl and repel it is in the darkest red wines, with Cabernet Sauvignon as champion. The wines have even more cancer fighting potency that the grape uice they were made from. So with your glass of red wine, check our news about which foods fight which cancers, or heart disease, pursue all foods that will attack your specific cancer, and eat them daily, hourly. All the darkest, brightest colors.

  • So, really, the pressure is off. If you have cancer, and the next time someone tells you to smile when you are having a spasm, throw the night clock at them-in your mind only please, no caretaker abuse. Then ask for a plate of prunes, plums, fresh berries, and oh, yes, a glass of red wine. Leave the bottle. Our point here is that this new study allows you to rely on your more coldly logical brain study and tell you which plums, wines, grapes, eggplants are best. Not going into your emotional brain and exhausting yourself smiling, when you finally now know the best way to deal with a cancer in us to be apply every healthy food and lifestyle in additional to medicine’s best new application for what ails us.

So, together, we will fight all evil diseases, and to frown is sometimes OK. Derek Dashwood
